In the summer of 2008, a group of friends, coworkers, and weekend warriors formed a kickball team with a name that made everyone chuckle: The Butterballs. What began as a lighthearted jab at their own slippery coordination and love of post-game snacks quickly turned into something far more serious—a team with heart, hustle, and a whole lot of flavor.
For over a decade, the Butterballs built their reputation on grit, good humor, and a game style that was as unpredictable as it was entertaining. They were known for their buttery-smooth passes, their fearless kicks, and their uncanny ability to churn chaos into points.
Then came the golden years.
In the summer of 2020, after twelve seasons of near-misses and hard-fought battles, the Butterballs finally claimed their first league championship. The victory was sweet, but they weren’t done. They defended their title in the summer of 2021, proving they were no fluke. After a brief stumble in 2022, they returned with renewed fire to win it all again in the spring of 2023, securing their place as a true dynasty.
Their motto, "Butyrum et Gloria"—Butter and Glory—became more than a slogan. It was a way of life. A reminder that greatness can come from the most unexpected places… even a stick of butter.
In 2025, the team introduced their official mascot: Meltz—a golden, cleated, and ever-grinning butter figure with a heart of gold and a kick that could launch a ball into orbit. Meltz quickly became a fan favorite, leading chants, dancing on the sidelines, and reminding everyone that the Butterballs were here for glory—and a good time.
Today, the Butterballs are more than a team. They’re a tradition. A celebration of fun, friendship, and the belief that with enough heart (and maybe a little grease), anything is possible.
